Android users:
This week I'm testing a new "Review" tab within the Android Beta program. This feature is not intended to replace specialized SRS apps like Anki, but to offer a simple and quick review tool.
I'll be most likely refining this idea over the next week before doing a full release for both iOS and Android devices.
If you'd like to take it for a spin please join the beta program at https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.tangoristo

🎉 Best Japanese learning app of 2017 🥇 !!!!
🎉 Thank you for your support!

"In first we have TangoRisto, a unique little reading app made to help you actually learn from all those NHK News Web Easy articles you've been trying to read. The app takes these news articles, parses them, and gives you vocabulary lists with readings, meanings, and JLPT levels. There are tons of customization options to make it as efficient as possible for your particular level (like adding and removing furigana). And honestly, we were shocked it took so long for an app like this to come out, but we're glad it finally did."

Dear TangoRisto users, I have an important question to ask you!
You may not know this, but every month I pay for the servers that process and deliver the analyzed Japanese text to the app. This is a monthly cost that has become an increasing burden as I need to pay higher fees with the growing popularity of the app.
At this point I need to seek some type of revenue stream to offset these costs and hopefully fund the future growth of the app. Specifically I would like to work on a new set of feature that would allow you to quiz your vocabulary knowledge in the context of a specific text. I also want to implement offline access, support for new languages... many things!
There are two options that I see as viable revenue streams to help me fund this work moving forward:
[Option 1] To introduce ads in the app. Hopefully in a non obtrusive way. At some point I could introduce an ad-removal option at a cost of around 9 USD (I need to see what ad revenue turns out to be have a better estimate).
[Option 2] To release some or most of the next big features (e.g. app quizzing, offline access, etc.) as a paid subscription of $2 dollars per month.
I'm leaning towards Option 1 since I would like for everybody to have access to all features and I know that even 2 dollars a month may be too much for some users.
Please click on the poll below and do send me your feedback. I want to continue making this a better app, but I also need to find a way to balance my expenses.

Just realized I introduced a bug on the font size control in the most recent update for Android... the fix (v2.0.8) is now available on Google Play.

Thank you for your feedback during the beta testing phase of v2.0.7.
The update is being rolled out now for all Android users and will be hitting the Apple App store once they complete the review process on their end.
Although there are no flashy features on this release, it will help me have a more stable ground to extend and improve the app over the coming year.

These are the main bullet points for v2.0.7:
☆ Code cleanup ahead of many features I will be implementing in 2018!
☆ Added better crash reporting for users experiencing difficulties running the app.
☆ The phone status bar color scheme is now more consistent with the app day/night mode selection.
☆ Removed those little popups confirming document and word bookmarks. They were a little redundant, and on top of that I'm suspecting they were making the app unstable in some cases.
☆ Fixed handling of inaccurate date/time settings on the device.
